Review	Immunisation is ubiquitous in nature. No one can "escape" it. BCG vaccine is probably second to only death in a way that every one meets with that. Inspite of being under developed in few fields and developing in many others, our country can take pride in the fact that our immunization coverage is exceptional comparing the vast area and the huge number of children we have to cover. An excellent illustration of the reach of routine immunization in our nation is the simple fact that there were no epidemics following the 2004 Tsunami. World Health Organisation and UN cried aloud many a times that more people will die of epidemic than the number of persons who had succumbed to the killer waves. But for nearly two months there were no vaccine preventable diseases in that area which gives testimony to the fact that the routine immunization coverage is adequate. A doctor is expected to know every thing about a drug that is commonly used. Vaccines are easily the kind of drugs that every child should get and it becomes imperative that knowledge about vaccines indispensable. There a quite a few western books, but it is common knowledge that Indian scenario is quite different from the western scenario. Wxcept for Park, this topic is given only a passing mention in other books. In this context, the book “Principles and Practices of Immunisation” by Tarun Gera, Dheeraj Shah, Jospeh L. Mathew and Anjali Seth has been published by Peepee publishers. Every one can afford this book that cost less than 2 litres of petrol !! and deals comprehensively about vaccines The book begins with a chapter on Basic Concepts in Immunisation where priorities for immunization like Prevalence of disease, availability of effective treatment, effectivenbess of vaccine, cost-effectiveness of vaccine, resources, scheduling, the age of best immunological response versus the risk of the disease, feasibility, simultaneous administration of vaccines and early ir delaued vaccination are dealt in detail. The authors also mention the vaccines that are more sensitive to heat, vaccines that are more sensitive to cold and vaccines that are more sensitive to light. This is followed by the description on storage and Vaccine Vial Monitors. The authors then follow with Essential (and a “little exhaustive”) description on the following vaccines BCG and vaccines for Tuberculosis Diphtheria, Pertussis and Tetanus Vaccines Measles, mumps and Rubella Vaccines against Polio Hepatitis B vaccine Hepatitis A vaccine Hemophilus Influenza Type B Vaccine Typhoid Vaccine Chicken Pox (Varicella) Vaccine Meningococcal Vaccines Pneumococcal Vaccines Rabies Vaccines Influenza Vaccine Other vaccines that are dealt with include Cholera Japanese Encephalitis Yellow Fever The books concludes with details of Combination vaccines, Vaccines for future, Universal Immunisation Program and Vaccination schedules
